WAR TIME RATIONS
Many of the items that were put on rations lists like chocolate were rationed in order to send some to the soldiers. Being in a foreign country was very hard for many soldiers so having something that reminded them of home was very important. Hershey's made a ration bar that according to history.com was as hard as a brick and many soldiers would have rather eaten a boiled potato. The military had strict regulations for the chocolate bar it had to be four ounces, withstand high heats, and provide the soldiers with energy. Sugar (in many forms) was a very popular thing to find in ration boxes. During World War II M & M's were only sold to the military because of their resistance to melting and their great taste.
